1944 Mercury Dime - Philadelphia - VG-F

$10.00

Description

Unprofessionally graded by me. Very Good to Fine condition. Mercury Dimes were first minted in 1916 to replace the Barber Dimes. The Obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a liberty cap helmet, adorned with wings based on the Roman knockoff of the Greek god Hermes. The Roman knockoff is known as Mercury, hence the name given to the Dimes. The Reverse side features a bundle of prodding rods used by the Romans during times of unrest, with an executioner's axe tied to the bundle. Behind it is an olive branch.
